Old friends

Old friends.  They are like the cosiest pair of slippers.  The kind that are so worn that the toes have rubbed right through, yet you see perfection in the way they fit.  Old friends are like the comfiest pair of trackies.  Fleece lined of course.  Old friends are the kind with which you bare your soul just by smiling.  Old friends know who you are.  What you stand for.  They can see your heart beating.  There are no boundaries and no walls between.  Nothing can be hidden.  You cannot paint a rose-filled garden and have it seen.  You are you.  They are they.  And the shoe just fits.  Perfectly every time.

Winter Warmer

Winter.  Beautiful clear days and cold nights.  After warming your bones, there is nothing better to warm the soul than a fresh pot of soup brewing!  Our house is currently alive with the rich aroma of my broccoli and spinach soup.  I cook from the heart so every recipe is unique.

Here is today's homemade recipe.

One leek -sliced finely
1/2 cup White wine
Knob of butter
Dash of Olive oil
One clove of Australian garlic
Two heads of broccoli
A bunch of fresh English Spinach
One zucchini
Chicken stock to cover veges
Salt and Pepper

Fry leek in butter and oil.  Add white wine.  Let it evaporate a bit.  Add stock and all the remaining ingredients.  Boil then simmer for an hour or so.  Blend and serve with a dollop of cream or grated sheep's pecorino cheese and a nice crunchy hunk of bread.

Yum!
